Sony Xperia tablet images leaked on the web
It looks like Sony is not going to waste any time adding to the tablet market this year. Images on the web show a new Sony Xperia tablet that is in the works and a few details have also been dug up on the new device. There was one post over at the always active XDA Developers forums and it detailed a new tablet from Sony that will replace the current Sony Tablet S and Tablet P devices. The original post has been updated to include some photos of the reported device. The images are paired up with some feature information that we can expect to see when the tablet arrives on the market.
The images show a large tablet that has a very similar design to the Tablet S. The top of the Tablet S had a curve to it, almost like a built in kickstand that would put the device at a decent angle when laid flat so you could still use it comfortably. One drawback about the Tablet S was that it was very bulky weighing in at more than 21 ounces. The new Xperia Tablet will reportedly be 42 percent lighter and just 8.8mm thick. Other specs for the Xperia tablet include a quad-core, Tegra 3 processor, a 9.4-inch touch screen display that sports a 1280×800 resolution. On the back side you will see an 8MP camera with a smaller 1MP web cam on the front side that is perfect for video chatting and more.
Not surprisingly the new tablet will at least come packaged with Android Ice Cream Sandwich, but it could also get the Jelly Bean update before shipping. If the tablet does not arrive with Jelly Bean, the update will be made available for shortly afterwards. The internal memory is reportedly going to come in three variations at 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. One feature that was not mentioned was the 4G support, so for now we can only assume it will work with 3G connections and Wi-Fi home networks.
As far as pricing goes, the Xperia tablet will be priced about $50 less than the iPad at each of the different models starting at $449 up to $649 for the 64GB model. The exact release date has not been mentioned either, but the IFA event is coming up in Berlin and that might be a time when we learn more.
