VTech Adds Wi-Fi To InnoTab Tablet
By Lisa Johnston — TWICE, 6/18/2012
NEW YORK — VTech announced it has updated
its kid-geared tablet, the InnoTab, to
include a rotating camera and added a Wi-
Fi-capable model.
Like the first version of the InnoTab, the InnoTab
2 has a 5-inch color touchscreen that
can serve as an e-reader or as a video, game
or music player. It’s geared toward ages 3 to
9, and content is accessed through VTech’s
Learning Lodge Navigator website. The InnoTab
2, which will keep a $79.99 suggested
retail, must be connected to download
content, while the InnoTab 2S ($99.99) can
connect to the site via Wi-Fi.
VTech has added a 2-megapixel camera
that can be rotated 180 degrees, as well
as a built-in microphone that can integrate
with some of the games. Consumers will
now also be able to purchase music albums
from the Learning Lodge Navigator site,
featuring public domain songs that VTech
has recorded.
The tablets have 2GB of built-in memory
with an SD slot that lets them expand up to
32GB. They will be available in July.
VTech said it will phase out the first generation
of the InnoTab.
A line of accessories will also be available,
including a protective sleeve ($9.99),
folio ($12.99), storage tote ($14.99) and
noise-limiting headphones ($19.99).
VTech also updated its MobiGo portable
game player. The MobiGo 2, which has a
flip-out QWERTY keyboard, now includes a
tilt sensor and a microphone. It is geared
toward ages 3 to 8. Suggested retail is
$59.99, and software titles cost $19.99.
Three preloaded games are included.
We would love your feedback!
